Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Starts New Journey With The New Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra has started a new journey in the field of sports under the leadership of its new chairman legendary sports patron and managing director of Bashundhara Group Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

He officially took over the charge of the Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra as chairman recently and met the press on Friday.

“We want to take challenge. Development of our football will begin from here. Football is the most fanfare and No-1 sports event across the country. But Bangladesh is lagging behind in this arena. So, my first target is to help football turn round,” he told a press conference at Westin Hotel in the capital on Friday.

“We and football personalities have to patronize and promote more to inspire our footballers. Sheikh Russel will be the ace football club across the country. We will do everything to regain the No-1 spot. Our one and only goal in sports is to become champions,” he added.

Meanwhile, the managing director of the leading business conglomerate in the country was delighted after officially taking the responsibility of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra as chairman.

The press meet was followed by a lavish dinner party at the same hotel in the evening.

On taking over as chairman of Sheikh Russel KC, Sayem Sobhan Anvir expressed happiness to be a part of this football club. He also thanked the audience to be part of this event.

“As a member of this sports-loving family, I have volunteered to take over charge of the Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra as chairman. I have comprehensive plans to reclaim the club’s glory and make it a premier professional sports club in the country as well as in the region. It is my firm belief that overall image of the club will be enhanced in years to come. I seek wholehearted support and cooperation from the media. I am sure you will help me accomplish the challenging task,” he concluded.

Among others Bashundhara Group vice-chairman Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir, Bashundhara Group Additional Managing Director Safwan Sobhan Tasbir, Media Advisor of Bashundhara Group Mohammad Abu Tayeb, standing committee member of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Editor of Daily Kaler Kantho Emdadul Haq Milon, Standing committee member of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Editor of Daily Bangladesh Pratidin Neem Nizam, Executive Director (Accounts and Finance) of East West Property Development (Pvt) Limited Imrul Hasan, Ismat Jamil Akanda, director in charge of Sheikh Russel, and other officials, journalists and employees of Bashundhara Group also attended the function.

Besides, Sayem Sobhan Anvir’s uncle, legendary sports personality and a member of the world champion of the then Pakistan hockey team in 1969-70 Abdus Sadek was also present on the occasion.

One of the most top-rated football clubs across the country and Bangladesh Premier Football League outfit Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra wrapped up their player registration formalities in a festive atmosphere at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) conference room recently.

The key feature of Russel’s player registration formalities was purchasing country’s numerous quality footballers from various prominent football clubs across the country including nine national footballers joined Sheikh Russel for the upcoming season. Six players from Mohammedan Sporting Club joined Sheikh Russel this year.

Last year Sheikh Russell assigned Montenegrin Dragan Dukanovic as their head coach as the first overseas coach of Bangladesh Premier League champions-2013-14 season. Russel finished with sixth spot among 10 teams in the Bangladesh Premier Football League last year.

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra is set to start with a new vigor in the New Year, with new zeal along with financial security and with a pledge for playgrounds.

Sheikh Russel KC was unfolded in 1995 and meanwhile the club has won titles of first division, premier league and professional competitions. But during the last 20 years, the club did not get own playground or club tent.

Moreover, they had to set camps at rented houses. From that position Sayem Sobhan is going to establish the club to a new permanent address.

Until before last season, Sheikh Russel KC held the treble crown across the country’s domestic football, but last season they lost everything and became an ordinary club.

Bashundhara Group will provide the players of SRKCL with all kinds of facilities, including housing and playground facilities, to improve the performance of the players. Sheikh Russel KC also called for Bangladesh Football Federation to come forward alongside the private entrepreneurs to take the country’s football to a new height.

Sheikh Russel team are now looking forward to their forthcoming AFC qualifying play-off mission which is scheduled to be held on February 10 against a Tajikistan club in central Asia. Sheikh Russel KC marked their name in the history books as the first Bangladeshi club to earn a second-round slot in the AFC President’s Cup last year.

There are play-off matches of AFC, Federation Cup and Premier League and we will be champion in the matches.

Bashundhara Group is always a premier patron of sports at home and abroad. Recently, they hosted Bangladesh-Zimbabwe cricket series marked by ‘whitewash or banglawash’. A number of golf and football tournaments have also been sponsored on behalf of the company in the recent years.

Members of the Sobhan family had always been proactive and played significant roles in overall development of sports by infrastructure support, sponsoring and hosting mega events at home and abroad.

Grandfather of patron Advocate Abdus Sobhan had been a premier swimmer and a badminton player in the then undivided Bengal in the early 30s.
