Sheikh Russel look to confirm final berth

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd will be looking to confirm their place in the Federation Cup final for only the second time in club history when they take on Dhaka Abahani Ltd in the second semifinal of the ongoing meet in Munshiganj today.

Sheikh Russel earlier played in the Federation Cup final only once back in 2012 when they beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by 2-1 goals in the thrilling final. Sheikh Russel also won a domestic treble in that season.

Sheikh Russel and Dhaka Abahani qualified for the knockout phase from the same Group C before they beat Rahamatganj MFS and Sheikh Jamal respectively by the same 1-0 margin to make their places in the last four.
Ahead of the crucial encounter, Sheikh Russel coach Zulfiker Mahmud Mintu expressed his confidence in beating Abahani. “It will be a tough match but we are determined to reach the final. We are just focusing on victory,” Mintu told the reporters on Monday.

Dhaka Abahani’s Portuguese head coach Mario Lemos feels that it would be a great challenge for his side to beat Sheikh Russel. “It’s a massive challenge. Sheikh Russel KC are good side and they beat us in the Independence Cup. We take this match as a final,” said Lemos.

The winners of the contest will face Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd in the final on May 30.
