10-man Sheikh Russel hold Abahani

Six-time champions Abahani Limited were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in their Bangladesh Premier League second-leg match in Sylhet on Thursday.

In the day’s other games, defending champions and league leader Bashundhara Kings secured a 2-1 win against Police Football Club in Rajshahi while Saif Sporting Club secured their fourth consecutive win after beating Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-1 in Cumilla.

In another match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club managed a solitary goal win against Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in Munshiganj where Nigerian forward Musa Tachi Najere scored the match winning goal in the sixth minute.

In Sylhet, Abahani were ahead till the 90th minute courtesy of a 34th minute strike from forward Mehedi Hasan but the Sky Blues had to remain content with a draw after midfielder Dipok Roy scored an injury time equaliser for Sk Russel.

Sk Russel were reduced to 10-man in the 80th minute when their midfielder Manik Hossain Molla was sent off with a direct red card after committing a foul against Abahani’s Costa Rican World Cupper Daniel Colindres.

In Rajshahi, Brazilian midfielder Miguel Ferreira scored a brace for Kings in the 12th and 30th minutes before Police FC defender Danilo Augusto pulled one goal back in the 82nd minute from a penalty.

In Cumilla, Saif SC’s Uzbekistani midfielder Asror Gafurov and their Nigerian forward duo Mfon Udoh and Emeka Chukwudiebube Ogbugh scored once each in the 18th, 23rd and 80th minutes respectively while Mohammedan’s local forward Jafar Iqbal pulled one goal back by scoring in the 89th minute.

After 15 games, league leaders Kings raised their tally to 38 points and were six-point and eight-point ahead of Abahani and Sk Jamal respectively.

With 27 points Saif SC were in fourth place followed by Mohammedan (22), Police FC (19), and Sk Russel (15) in fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively. Rahmatgaj MFS were in 10th place with 10 points.
