Ngwoke guides Russel into Fed Cup semis

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra booked their place in the semi-finals of the Federation Cup when they beat Rahmatganj Muslims Friends Society 1-0 in the fourth quarter-final at the Birshreshtha Flight Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Tuesday.

Nigerian forward Ikechukwu Ngwoke scored the lone goal of the match in the 13th minute against previous edition’s runners-up Rahmatganj MFS.

Ngwoke poked the ball into the net from the goalmouth after his compatriot forward Mfon Udoh provided a cutback from the left inside of the box.

Sheikh Russel were reduced to 10-man in the 59th minute after defender Abid Ahmed received two yellow cards within a span of three minutes for committing fouls.

They will now take on defending champions Abahani Limited in the second semi-final on May 16 after Bashundhara Kings play Mohammedan Sporting Club in the other semi-final on May 9.
