Sheikh Russel KC celebrate Sheikh Russel’s 59th birth anniversary
The country’s top-tier football outfit Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd celebrated the 59th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel through various day-long programs today.
Sheikh Russel, the youngest child of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on this day in 1964 at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital which is now known as ‘Bangabandhu Memorial Museum or Bangabandhu Bhaban’.
Sheikh Russel was brutally killed along with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, his two elder brothers Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and their most of the family members and close relatives on the fateful night of 15 August in 1975 by a group of disgruntled army men.
Bangabandhu’s two daughters – incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana – survived the carnage as they were in Germany at that time.
Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir took all initiatives to celebrate this day in a befitting manner as like every year.
On this day, Sheikh Russel KC directors, members and officials paid rich tribute placing floral wreaths to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Sheikh Russel’s grave in the city’s Banani at 11:00am and arranged a dua mahfil and special monajat at Banani graveyard mosque.
Then, the club arranged another milad and doa mahfil and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of August 15 at their at Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex in Bashundhara Residential Area. They also arranged a cake-cutting programme there.
At the end, the club arranged a feeding program at Sobhanbagh Mosque where food was served to around 200 orphans and destitute people.
Sheikh Russel KC director in-charge Ismat Jamil Akhond Lavlu, finance director Md Fakhruddin, other directors, life-time and permanent members, players, officials and other distinguished personalities were present on the occasion.
“Sheikh Russel’s 59th birthday today. It is painful to us that he was brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on August 15 in 1975. Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir took all initiatives to celebrate Sheikh Russel’s birth anniversary,” said Ismat Jamil Akhond Lavlu to the reporters on this day.
“We arranged a day-long program to celebrate Sheikh Russel’s birth anniversary. Sheikh Russel KC Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir instructed everything,” said Md Fakhruddin.
